Bootcamp Program

Day One - SATURDAY, JUNE 2nd

Official UN Environment celebration of World Environment Day

Celebrate actor and environmental activist Aidan Gallagher’s designation as a UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador for North America (and the youngest ambassador to be designated by UN Environment)!

After a special opening introduction from UN Environment North America Director Barbara Hendrie, the official designation ceremony will take place honoring Aidan and his new role.

The first day will close with a screening of STRAWS and a surprise musical guest!

Day two will focus on the science behind plastics and campaigning 101.

First, you'll understand how plastic is made, learn about different types of plastics, and, most importantly, the effect plastic has on the marine environment. Next, you'll learn the basics of building an impact campaign and the tools you need to make it successful.

Workshops will be led by leading scientists including 5 Gyres' Dr. Marcus Eriksen, a representative from the University of Georgia, Algalita Youth Leader, Melissa Aguayo and by acclaimed campaigners including Literatti Founder Jeff Kirschner, #NoStrawNovember founder Shelby O'Neil, Hannah Testa, and Courtney Kimmel from Captain Planet Foundation.

Day three - Monday, JUNE 4tH

Day three will focus on refining your campaign to reduce the single-use plastic straw.

Learn how to communicate your campaign through peer voice building workshops and then learn how to create a media and social media plan from industry experts. The Bootcamp will close with formal campaign pitch presentations to Lonely Whale co-founder and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador Adrian Grenier. All Squad members will have the chance to pitch their campaign concept and receive feedback directly from Adrian.

Before Bootcamp attendees head home, everyone will be invited to watch Smog Of The Sea, featuring Jack Johnson.

Workshops and Keynotes will be led by Adrian Grenier, Henry Pincus, Danni Washington, Dune Ives & Barbara Hendrie, Sondra Weiss, and Emy Kane.

Day four - tuesday, JUNE 5tH

Join us after the Bootcamp is over for the official World Environment Day celebration, hosted by UN Environment North America at the historic Historic Carver Theater!
